Saturday, June 8 was a lovely day. We started by walking downtown to the Haupbahnhof (train station) and rode the train to Rudesheim am Rhein for the Eibinger Weinwanderung, which is a Wine Walk. We bought a ticket that entitled us to 10 wine samplings (a glass of 0.1l) from 10 different wineries that had stations set up along the 3km walk (uphill) within the vineyards. At the top was a lovely monastery with beautiful roses and a phenomenal view over the vineyards and Rhein River.
This area of Germany is known for Riesling wine which is not incredibly sweet like in the States.
We met some lovely Germans along the way and shared some delightful stories. Following the walk, had dinner with another group of Germans in Rudesheim. Exhausted and full, we took the train back with our 2 backpacks full of 8 bottles of wine! This area of Germany is known for Riesling wine which is not incredibly sweet like in the States.
