Würzburg is a city in Germany's Bavaria region. It's known for lavish baroque and rococo architecture, particularly the 18th-century Residenz palace, with ornate rooms, a huge fresco by Venetian artist Tiepolo and an elaborate staircase. Home to numerous wine bars, cellars and wineries, Würzburg is the center of the Franconian wine country, with its distinctive bocksbeutel (bottles with flattened round shapes).
We had a lovely day here visiting the Residence and Cathedral, Marienburg Fortress and gardens, the Old Bridge, the Town Hall and several other churches. After our town tour we went to the Kiliani Fair, the largest folk festival in Lower Franconia and rode the Ferris wheel. The view from the top was breathtaking over the vineyards and the town of Wurzburg. And if that wasn't enough, we went to the local winery Weinfest. What a day! Some places we went pictures weren't allowed so the most magnificent sites aren't included.
