So we weren't through yet! One more even before Sudie is to return home and it's a big one: Rhine in Flames!
But first, we went into Rudesheim. We stopped off at the Georg Breuer winery and tasted some wines while subsequently buying 4 of them, of course. And then we had the world famous Rudesheimer Coffee. Oh my goodness, such goodness! Rüdesheimer Kaffee is an alcoholic coffee drink from Rudesheim am Rhein in Germany invented in 1957 by the German television chef, Hans Karl Adam. It is a popular drink in coffee houses. Asbach Uralt brandy and sugar cubes are added to a cup. In Rüdesheim, a cup that is specially designed for this beverage is used. The brandy is flambéed and stirred for a minute until the sugar dissolves. Strong coffee is added, followed by a topping of thickly whipped cream sweetened with vanilla sugar. Chocolate flakes are scattered onto the cream as a garnish. Good doesn't do it justice. Oh, of course, we bought the cups and the Asback to make our own!
After buying too much, we lugged everything onto our cruise for the Rhine in Flames event. We traveled from Rudesheim toward Lorelei, had a cold plate dinner with meats we weren't sure about, had a drink and saw some castles. With the sun setting, the boat turned around and staged for a phenomenal castle lighting and fireworks display on the Rhine. It was stunning!
Rhein in Flammen (English: "Rhine in Flames") is the name of five different firework displays along the river Rhine in Germany. The displays take place annually, at various locations along the river. On the five different dates, brightly illuminated ships sail the river in an evening convoy for their passengers to see the full firework display at each location of the river. The firework displays are started when the ships arrive. During the firework displays in St. Goar and St. Goarshausen, the convoy waits statically between the two castles Burg Maus and Burg Rheinfels. On the river banks wine festivals take place that attract hundreds of thousands of visitors every year.
