On April 6, we decided to spend the day experiencing the Rüdesheim Ring Tour. We drove to Rüdesheim and parked, walked around the town a little and then caught the chair lift up over the vineyards to Neiderwald. Neiderwald Monument is located at the top. The monument was erected between 1877 and 1883 and is very popular all over the world with visitors. The monument stands and impressive 38 meters tall and was erected to symbolize the establishment of the German Empire following the end of the Franco-Prussian War in 1871. The monument offers stunning views over the Rhine and Nahe valleys. It was gorgeous.
After visiting the Neiderwald Monument and the Neiderwald Temple, we walked through the woods to get to the hotel in Neiderwald where you catch the chair lift back down to Assmannshausen (yes, that's the name). In Assmannhausen we caught the ferry across the Rhine River to Burg Reinstein where toured the Rheinstein Castle. This castle is one of the finest example of Rhine Romanticism architecture. Originally constructed over 700 years ago before later falling into ruin, the fortress became the first castle on the Rhine to be rebuilt during the Romantic era in the 19th century. Their is a shop, cafe and apartments available to rent. It is really lovely.
