This was a busy day. We visited two different castles and took the English tours at each.

First we started at Eltz Castle. An 850 year-old castle that sits on a steep rock in one of the tributary rivers of the famous Moselle - amidst one of Germany's most unspoiled ancient wooded landscapes. Encircled by the river Eltz, which gives its name to one of Germany's most eminent noble families. Eltz Castle has been the family home of the Lords and Counts of Eltz for more than thirty generations. The inside of the castle is unique: the living and sleeping areas, the armoury and knights's hall, the hunting room and kitchen - all have been well preserved and largely furnished with original contents. (no pics allowed of inside but I snuck a few)

After Eltz Castle, we traveled to Cochem to see the "Sleeping Beauty" castle located in Cochem. We traveled through Mosel Valley through some of the country's most picturesque landscapes and most productive wine regions. The castle is perched high above the town. Burg Reichsburg (the castle) is over 1,000 years old and and proclaimed by local lore to be the original "Sleeping Beauty" castle. As Sleeping Beauty is Pam's favorite, a glass of wine was in order.
