We arrived home from Italy at about 200am Friday morning and grabbed a bit of sleep and off to Amsterdam we went early afternoon for the weekend. We stayed in Volendam about 25 minutes outside of Amsterdam on the bus line. So we grabbed sleep on Friday night and off to Amsterdam in the morning with the first stop being the Van Gogh museum. We weren't allowed to take pictures in the museum except for the glass flower exhibit. A special exhibit of Van Gogh and the Sunflowers featured his famous sunflower painting.
We went by the home of Ann Frank (green door picture) and walked through the streets. The weather was perfect.
After a very long first day, we got up again in the morning to do it all over again. So it was off to the Rijks Museum when it opened. We were lucky enough to see Rembrandt's famous painting The Night Watch with no one in our way. We also loved Vermeer's painting entitled The Milkmaid. The museum was beautiful. We spent several hours in the museum, enjoyed some local Dutch cuisine for lunch, took a canal ride and bought some cheese. Of course! And then we drove back home. It was a great weekend.
Bye Amsterdam!
